FUS 54 &55 cut from raw stock- Rebel.

Post by Wayne G. O'Shea » Fri Feb 17, 2012 9:22 pm

Hi Murray and ALL!

Cleaned up the Subject line, which I think is starting to be REALLY
important now that there are so many Elite and SR builders on-line now!
Starting to get confusing for some (even me at times!), without stating the
model you're working on!

Murray you threw me off when you stated top gusset 55. This is the <bottom>
motor mount doubler. Pulled out my personal manual with <my> mod notes in
it. I extend the nose of this doubler by 5/8" so it can be slipped between
the floor pan and the firewall flange to add some strength and tie it all
together. This doubler also needs to be longer on the pilot side, than the
passenger side, to pick up the rudder pedal pivot blocks. In my notes the
passenger side needs to have an overall length of 8&1/4" (which is the
drawing supplied by MAM + the 5/8" I mentioned above) and the pilot side
needs to be 1 1/4" longer for an O/L of 9&1/2". If you don't do this you
will end up adding another little doubler the same thickness, aft of the
FUS-55, for the pilot sides pivot block to sit on! These lengths may vary
depending on where you put your pedals, put I have these numbers written
down for <some> reason (after I ***ked up my own obviously!) and have used
them on every fuselage since.

I also recommend that the upper FUS-54 side doublers be installed on the
inside (vs the manual shown outside) for a much cleaner look of the finished
nose.

Subject: Gusset 54 &55

HELLO FROM CALGARY

Engine mount reinforcing gusset 54 is riveted to the firewall. The top
gusset 55 does not appear to attach to the firewall as it is installed
from
the inside.

Pretty basic but would someone please reply.

THANKS

Wayne:

Thanks for your input.
I am adding most of your upgrades as I go. Am almost finished the tailcone
doubler. Not to bad of a job.
As everyone else is most appreciative of your advice I too thank you for
your time.
It sounds as though your well on your way to recovery, take care.

"Thanks" does not seem to justify the benefit we all get from your advice.

Good luck to all
