Rebel kit upgrades when ordering from MAM
Posted: Fri Feb 17, 2012 9:22 pm
Rob, you won't get the material for the FUS-31 doubler included in the kit,
but the SB I created is just a piece of .032 and 3 x 3/16 rivets which
should be. The FUS-31 doubler can be done with a piece of .032 sheet
material also, or the easier way is to get MAM (Murphy Aircraft Mfg) to sell
you another FUS-31 to do the job with and this will leave you enough scrap
.032 to do a lot of other stuff with.
Don't know if Colleen will delete the wing tips and tail wheel from a kit or
not since the kits overall price really lowers the individual value of each
item. All you can do is ask her NICELY and if not the tail wheel can be sold
to someone with a Fisher Celebrity Bi-plane, or similar, as it works good on
one of those! List price on the wing tips is up to approx. $163Cdn each now,
so even if she took that price out for a pair it would cover your extra
material I am talking about here.
Also when ordering your kit ask for 3 x ST28 (front spar for horiz stab)
extra. This will give you the material to build the door sill areas properly
at .032 instead of with the ST-31 .020 channel. IF you won't have easy
access to raw sheet I would also suggest having MAM sell you a piece of .032
sheet about 2' x 4' to upgrade your outer Fus-25's and another piece of .040
about the same size to do your Fus-26's so you have them when the time
comes.

gave me.Wayne,
Thanks for the quick reply with more value added than the GST/OPT every
bulletin?Sounds like leaf spring, Scott 3200, grease, and some mods.
About the mods
THE (FUS-31 DOUBLER) "ONTARIO" TAIL WRAP MOD AS WE CALL IT AND THE SERVICE
BULLETIN FOR THE TAIL POST!
When ordering a new Rebel kit
1) Do I get the materials for a FUS-31 Doubler and tailpost service
clecos?If not does Murphy swap out stuff from the basic kit such as
keep the tail wheel and wing tips but give me the FUS-31 doubler and some
tires.Rob Sexmith

-> YES! I INSTRUCTED GEORGE FROM MAUI, THAT BOUGHT ONE OF MY REBELS, HOW
RETAINER-> SO.
-> YOU NEED TO MACHINE A PIECE TO REPLACE THE SUPPLIED MAM TAIL SPRING
PIECE-> PLATES AND THE HORIZONTAL STAB STRUT ATTACH ANGLE BRACKET. FROM ONE
IT-> YOU CAN MACHINE A PIECE TO BOLT ONTO THE TS1'S (OR YOU COULD EVEN MAKE
STRUTS-> REPLACE THESE ALSO IF GOOD WITH A MILL), PICK UP THE HORIZONTAL STAB
(FUS-31-> AND HAVE A ROUND HOLE DIAMETER TO MATCH THE TAIL WHEEL MOUNT TUBE TO GO

ENERGY AND-> THE TAIL POST!
-> > 2)
-> > Pros cons of tube spring vs leaf spring?
-> GEORGE WANTED IT AS HE READ THAT THE ROD TAIL SPRING ABSORBS MORE
BECAUSE-> TRANSFERS LESS SHOCK LOAD TO THE AIRFRAME, IN SIDE LOAD CONDITIONS,
TO-> THE ROD CAN FLEX SIDEWAYS, WHERE AS THE 1 3/4" WIDE SPRING IS NOT GOING
GREASED-> FLEX IN THAT DIRECTION AND TRANSFERS ALL THE LOADS TO THE TAIL CONE.
->
-> CON IN MY OPINION IS IT'S GOING TO BE A MORE BOBBY/SWAYING RIDE
-> > 3)
-> > Pros cons of model 3200 vs 3400?
-> THE 3400 IS SEALED A LITTLE BETTER, BUT IF YOU KEEP YOUR 3200 WELL
GET-> IT SHOULD KEEP THINGS FLUSHED OUT OF THE MECHANISM
-> > 4)
-> > Tips on matching tailwheel to mains?
-> WOULDN'T WORRY ABOUT IT AS THE ANGLE OF ATTACK, NO MATTER HOW STEEP YOU
WILL-> IT, IS ONLY GOING TO HINDER YOUR TAXI VIEW AND NOTHING ELSE. THE REBEL
GO-> DEPART FROM 3 POINT AT ANY ANGLE OF ATTACK YOU CAN GET IT TO SIT AT ON
-> TIRES. CHARLES HAD 29" X 10" ATV TIRES AND A SCOTT 3200 ON HIS. IF YOU
OVER-> LARGE TUNDRA'S YOU MIGHT WANT TO FIND A 10" TAILWHEEL FOR A BETTER VIEW
http://rebel:builder@www.dcsol.com:81/default.htm-> THE NOSE, BUT NOT NECESSARY AS THE VIEW IS GREAT FOR A TAILDRAGGER
