Odyssey Battery

Post by Legeorgen » Fri Feb 17, 2012 9:22 pm

Someone mentioned Odyssey batteries last week, so I looked them up on a web
page and learned the PC625, recommended battery for a Lycoming 0320, was a 16
AH battery. The battery Gill Cell recomends for this engine is a 25 AH
battery. I like the thought of a 13lb. battery but is it large enough to do
the job? Has anyone been using this battery on a Lycoming 0320 and what is
your experience with it?

Odyssey Battery

Bruce, that's what I had put on the firewall for Charles and it cranked his
O-235 over really well. Same 6.5 to 1 compression ratio as your 0-320 will
be, if 150 HP. The Rebel I repaired this spring had an Odyssey battery ( I
think next size up) mounted way down in the tailcone and it cranked over the
O-320 (WITH O-540 cylinders on it!!) "lickidy split"!

I am wondering if standard starters were used or perhaps an aftermarket ??

Also what do O-540 cylinders do for you on an O-320 ??

Phil,

If I remember right, your battery (the next size up) weighed in at 24lb. Is
this correct?

YES. I think my total with custom made aluminum battery box and battery the weight came to 27 LB. I REALLY need to climb back in there and double check. I have the total weight written on the out side of the box.
