Hi All
Sorry not to have attended the meeting on Sun.as I have been ill.In answer
to Brian's question about performance with the installation of the STOL
cuffs I'm afraid I can't offer any performance numbers. This is because of
all the different configurations of Rebels which have the cuffs on them.
The engine range through Subaru to Lycoming 235,290,320,etc.,and
configurations vary from wheel pants to tundra tires and straight and amphib
floats. All I am able to say is that the control of the plane is more
positive at lower speeds then might normaly be flown prior to cuff
installation. Stalling is a straight ahead mushing, non-event situation. And
I find the most exciting enhancment is the ability to hold a dramatic angle
of attack under power at slower than normal forward speed thereby making
what has been originally a great STOL plane even more STOL.
With our own Rebel 049R there was no noticable decrease in top speed. The
main difference was improved control at slow speeds as well as reduced
take-off and landing distances. The fellows on floats feel they get off the
water quicker and have had to re-rig their float angles to take advantage of
the changed performance.Sorry to be a bit vague with numbers but we have not
documented pre and post performance figures on an installation yet. bobp?
A Super Rebel under construction in Vernon BC is the first installation of
STOL cuffs on that model and again there are no pre installation figures for
that plane to compare to as it has not flown yet.
Hope that answers some of your questions.
Best Regards, Angus

Roger Cole sent me the 3 pages of instructions and 2 photos that show where you need to have flush rivets. I've posted it all in one PDF file under Rebel Wings.

Hey Guys,

My kit's wings are already done. As I scanned the McKensie STOL kit
instructions, I wondered:
How do you dimple the skins once the the requisite rivets have been
removed? Is there a special tool or do you just use low-profile rivets in
normal holes and hope for the best?

Curious,

Rob
