mounting fuel sensor

Hi all,

I purchased a 'low fuel warning sensor' to install in
my fuel tank. It's a simple float device, about 1/2 as
long as a pen. It has 1/2" NPT for mounting.

I can figure out how to mount it? The only thing I can
find would be an AN-867 welding flange, but it has a
lip on the flange that makes it impossible to rivet
on. The only other thing I could figure out to do
would be to use an AN-912 pipe thread reducer (1/2 ID,
3/4 OD) with a 3/4" AN-924 nut, prosealed into a hole
in the root rib. Then screw in and seal the sensor
into that.

Anyone mounted anything like this? I would like to
find a 1/2 NPT flange like the fuel outlet fittings
supplied by Murphy. I need to find out who their
supplier is.

-Jason

hello Jason A low fuel warning sounds like a fine idea. I think that from
the looks of the murphy flanges they are machined in house. I've found
their prices to be quite reasonable on spare parts and I'd try them first.

Jason, I was wondering why you where adding a low fuel sensor. Are you not
using the "site tubes" as recommended in the manual. That is what I have in
mine (Rebel "652"-flying) and it takes no more then a quick glance to know
when my fuel is low. I guess I just like to keep things simple.-Bob J.

I'm pretty certain MAM mfg's their own fuel outlet fittings Jason! IF you
have access to the -867, why not throw it in a lathe (or just use a grinder)
and remove the lip that is on them for welding. Then drill, proseal and
rivet the same as the ones supplied by Murphy. If you have to order one of
the -867 you will probably find it's cheaper to just order the original from
Murphy, than the -867 from Aircraft Spruce etc.

No. I have installed panel mount gauges. I think the
sight gauges are fine, but I just prefer the gauges.
Personal preference really.

Jason

Do you need one or two? I have one here that you could have but it is
angled such that by rotating its mounting orientation it angles the
sensor up down forward or aft. Probably a good idea anyway for you as it
would let you position the sensor float closer to the bottom of the
tank. Can send a photo if you like.
