G'day

Re: 10.0 Wing assembly (manual date 26/06/98) Page 54/55 Figure 10.12.4.

I have encountered a problem with the adjustment of the ailerons and would appreciate some advice.

I followed the instructions as described, using 1/8" and 1/16" hinge spacers (W605), and despite using all the combinations of spacers,
I cannot sufficiently adjust the hinges so that the aileron will clear the trailing edge of the wing.

However if I put a 1/8" or 3/16" of spacers under the top of the hinge, and none under the bottom part of the hinge, I can get satisfactory clearance. This of course flexes the hinge.

I guess my question is, can I safely pack up the top of the hinge and without any spacers on the bottom.

I would appreciate any assistance.

Thanks and regards

Ian,
I had the same question a few years ago and questioned the factory. Their answer was to cut the top wings skin back as necessary to get the required aileron clearance. I believe my skins required about 1/4" of trimming and that gave me about an 1/8" gap from the skin to the aileron without the fabric covering installed.
Good luck,
Rick D.

FWIW I made aluminum wedge shaped spacers to keep from flexing the
hanger brackets. They were less than 1/8" thick. I also trimmed the top
skin a bit with a router which was the real solution.

Ian !

If you add the spacers to ALL the hinges on that wing...it shouldn't twist the aileron !
