SB080520REB - Tail post to Fus-31 "doubler"

Thought I would just pass on that this "reinforcement", that I had suggested
to MAM to put out as a SB, is holding it's own with no ill effects to any
airframe components around it (ie: no "bigger band-aid syndrome"!).

I just finished doing the annual on Howard's amphib after another season of
heavy (hours and weight wise!) float flying and inspected 2 other Rebel's
today that I did this reinforcement to about 3 years ago and ALL are holding
up fine, with no new cracking or shearing of the larger RV1613 rivets (or
anything deforming around the new part).

I must note, as I have before to the list, that I do not do the reinforcing
plate per MAM's SB drawings. I feel that the drilling of holes, to make the
tab, is giving it a place to crack again. I just make a pie shaped piece to
fit the FUS-31 and bend up the tab, without drilling any "relief" holes. You
don't need the relief holes as you are not bending tabs in both directions
as on the original FUS-31 component.

Those that are currently building their Rebel, make sure you incorporate
this SB into your fuselage. Those that are flying make sure you perform this
SB in due time, before things get too loose in the rear! ALL (we are talking
in excess of 15) the Rebels, except one, that I have "put through" the shop
have had either sheared rivets and/or cracked FUS-31's prior to performing
this SB. Therefore this should be treated as a MANDATORY
installation/repair.
