I really like the CAM500 (http://www.aero-engines.bc.ca/cam500.htm) from
Firewall Forward in British Columbia, the Blackhawk Lightning
(http://www.aviaent.com/PSRU.htm#inside), and the Marcotte
(http://www.sdsefi.com/air14.html) for geared redrives, but I fear they will
all be to heavy and too expensive, so I will probably end up with a belt
drive from Chip Jones or maybe Belted Air Power. The only problem with
using a belt is that there is no provision for a constant speed prop.

On a different subject, I found a neat company that makes plastic engines
that I can use to build up my engine mount.
(http://www.payr.com/price_list.htm). Might be easier than dealing with the
heavy, real engine.

I have corresponded with the SeaBee owner. He seems very pleased with his
LS-1. I think you can get an LS-1 conversion from him for other SeaBees if
you want. I plan to build up my engine myself.

Last time I checked, the Marcotte drive was only $3,600 CDN -
pretty hard to beat that with a belt ! They also have provision
for a constant speed oil output, and look like a really beefy unit.

Wow! I thought I remember you telling me that the Marcotte was a good bet a
while ago, but I had no idea it was that inexpensive. Once again, weight
might make it impossible since the gear drives can weigh in as much as 90
pounds. I will definitely find out though. Thanks!

Weight might not be tooooo critical for the SVX 6 cyl. Subaru -
it's a very compact engine, so the weight wouldn't be as far forward
as on a V-8.

You might want to talk to Jorge at Crossflow Engineering, as
they also have a compact re-drive that is part of their firewall-forward
Subaru package for the SR. They have one SR flying now, and another
very close .... www.crossflow.com
They're just up in Shelburne, Ont. - 519-925-5633.

Not cheap, but very nice units, complete, and well supported.

The Marcotte was about the lightest drive I considered. Be careful to
note what is included, such as the flywheel, when comparing.

After hearing about all the problems with the Ross units I'm not anxious to
be the test bed. Any contact info on users?
