IT'S TOO QUIET OUT THERE
G'day Rick
I'm managing to take a few forward steps for a change!
There was a period when I was marking time or even going backwards!I However I can now see the end of the project.
I would expect that sometime about the end of this year I might be flying. But you know the old saying 90% done, 90% left to do.
The painting was a lot of fun! It sure uses lots of paint. I could have painted four cars with the paint I used. I am now just doing the final engine fitout. How good would it be if If work did not interfere with hobbies!
How is your Rebel fluing.
What sort of performance are you getting out of it?

Rick,
Tell your friend Greg, with the Piper, to think of the plane he wants, like
he might buy a car. Does he want a jeep or a sedan, or even a sports car? An
RV9 is a sedan, the Rebel is a Jeep and an RV8 is more like a sports car.
They all serve a different function. What does he want to do with his plane?
Cross country? Then he should buy an RV9. Does he want to fly out of back
country and unimproved strips, or maybe floats? Then he should buy a Rebel.
If he wants to bore holes in the sky and do aerobatics then he should buy the
RV8.

IT'S TOO QUIET OUT THERE
Rebel 300R checking in.
I have the engine (LOM) hanging on the front
temporarily and the cowling on to test the fit.
Trying to make the exhaust fit within the cowling
is a challenge, glad to hear about the ceramic
coating as the stack will be close to the cowl at
one point.
I am fitting the floor right now as well as the
sticks and rudders and seats (seems like it needs
to be done all at one time). The fuel lines are
in from the wing root all the way to the
firewall. Have cut about 1/2 of the sky lights
out.
Have hung the rudder and have wiring up to the
tail light, but no trim servo in yet. Have the
strobe hooked up and the tailwheel on.
The wings are finished except for the tips,
ailerons and flaps. I am still struggling with
the doors, my wife wants gull wing and I want to
fly.
I have named the plane "Jenny" and she is
starting to look pretty good.

IT'S TOO QUIET OUT THERE
Hellow From Calgary:
I told everyone that after installing the vertical fin I thought it was going to take off, no engine, no wings just fatasizing like everyone else does but doesn't tell us.
Well I'm now installing the floor.Ya, slows you down. You go along sometimes getting through 3-4 pages of manual a night, then the floor. Two lines in the manual takes days.Don't forget to sit back and look at for a while. At least I feel I'm starting to see the end, I know there is still lots to do but at least it looks like an airplane.Help me somebody, I think I might get it up next summer or is this just wishfull thinking.
Haven't got an engine yet, there are a few around so I think I will find what I want before to long. No instrments either, think I will buy locally in hopes of getting better service should anything not be right.( don't like to say go wrong, it sounds to negative)
Sure glad I stabilized the tail before building the cage.It holds it all where it's supposed to be.
And yes I off-set the fin 3/4". Got a lot of opinions. I'll see whether it's right or wrong after leaving tera-firma.
But the way I put an ST 40 angle on each side of the doubled ST31 floor channels, Not mentioned in the manual.
Thanks for encouraging me to put uncut carrythroughs in. It sure looks a lot better.

G'day Rick
I'm managing to take a few forward steps for a change!
There was a period when I was marking time or even going backwards!I However I can now see the end of the project.
Just do ONE job at a time...then it doesn't seem to be so daunting.....and one day PRESTO it's finished !
I would expect that sometime about the end of this year I might be flying. But you know the old saying 90% done, 90% left to do.
OH yes !...
The painting was a lot of fun! It sure uses lots of paint. I could have painted four cars with the paint I used. I am now just doing the final engine fitout. How good would it be if If work did not interfere with hobbies!
How is your Rebel fluing.
It's going GREAT !!! :-) gets better and better all the time...
Allistair in NZ said that I would enjoy the second hundred hours much more than the first 100 hours...and I am begining to see why..(once all the bugs get ironed out, the FUN really starts !)
Still have a list of nigly things that need attention.....the only item of note being the oil temp getting too high now that summer is coming..In the process of re-redesigning all air in and out openings
I took a guy for a demo flight last week (Greg Gordon)...he has owned a Piper Tomahawk for about 5 years....and readily brags that it the lowest hour T-hawk in OZ....but he's not happy with it's performance when it comes to getting "out" of his property out west with himself ,(small frame)
and his wife (also small) and a "bit" of gear as well....
Greg was tossing up between building a Rebel and an RV9......so I finally took him up a week or two ago, and he was so impressed he went home and e-mailed Murphy regarding getting a kit !
He couldn't believe A: the STOL capability B: the payload capability C: the fact that it flies hands off....even on takeoff (recons he can't let go of the hawk even when it's straight & level !)
What sort of performance are you getting out of it?
Pretty good ! I still haven't got the "perfect propeller"..(it's still under-reving) , but "The Cheese Grater" (as we have christened her) will climb out at 800 to 1000 fpm with me (BIG) and a whole BUNCH of fuel (160 ish litres) no problem.
I'm hoping that when I finally find THE right propeller, it will climb out at the same numbers with two up, lots of fuel and lots of luggage :-)
It''ll hit 120 KNOTS straight & level on a calm day...and has no problem cruising at 105 KNOTS :-)
(All verified against the GPS....which I'm VERY pleased with !)
Once it gets bumpy, I reduce speed to 95ish....it's just more "comfortable" with that big wing (even with the flaperons reflexed)
