<!doctype html public "-//w3c//dtd html 4.0 transitional//en"> Grant or Brian,
For a standard rebel with a lycoming O-320.
Are the control travel distances given in the manual? I could not find them for final set up.
1. I need to know what the required aileron deflection is while the flaperons are set to nuetral i.e. 7/8" down on the mixer arm. See figure 64 in the control installation instructions.
The up and down deflections should be given in degrees using the aileron template as shown in figure 74 of the wing assembly manual.
2. I also need to know what the required deflections are while the mixer arm is set to the maximum flap down setting and in the reflex position.
3. What is the design deflection of the elevators, up and down in degrees?
4. What is the design deflection of the rudder left and right?
Please be very specific as these are critical to 1st flight safety and success and they should be provided by MAC. The numbers should come from the design of the aircraft.
I would like to get the aileron numbers as soon as possible because I am now held up due to the aileron deflection question.
Thank you,
Rick DeCiero

Rick,
Your aileron and rudder deflection questions for Brian and or Grant from MAM
should be directed to MAM technical assistance at <murphy-rebel@dcsol.com>.
This is a list server for builders and not connected to MAM. They will not
hear you here, unless they happen to log on and read the list as they do from
time to time. You should not have a problem getting an answer, they are
generally very responsive, at least that has been my experience. Good luck.

Bruce and others,
I did send this to MAC. I posted it to this list because I have never seen
actual factory recommended information on this and would like to see MAC publish
their required throws so that at least there is a baseline to start with. Others
have posted info on elevator deflections etc.

Rick,

I believe MAM recommends 25 degree up and down elevator travel. Some suggest
using 30 up and 20 down, particularly if you're nose heavy as many heavier
engine installs are. Rudder travel is usually to the rudder stops on the
rudder horn as they make contact with the stop bolts. I don't remember the
degree of deflection for the rudder. If you find you have insufficient rudder
for a good slip you can increase it somewhat by drilling new bolt holes for
the rudder stops. I am not flying yet so I can't be of much help as to these
figures in real life. Hope that helps.

Help guys,
Have reassembled aircraft after painting (yes!! hopefully for the last
time!!)but in nipping up the controls I only can get 14deg max aileron
travel, up and down from the neutral position. Plus up reflex. This
gives me 3 inch of upmovement from neutral to full aileron or 5 1/2 inch
total up from neutral to reflex position.
Any idea's??
Regards
Graeme 647R

Hi Graeme !

One thought comes to mind - It's very easy to hook the
wrong pushrods up and end up with the aileron <movement> REVERSED !!!
No criticism here - I know of at least TWO Rebels that were
FLOWN that way (and the results weren't pretty !) That setup
might limit the travel to less than you had before ....

Just a thought - and something EVERYBODY should be checking
before going aviating after reassembly !

Hi All,

What is the up and down travel on the ailerons? (or where in the manual can I find this info)

Where has every one been positioning the heated pitot tube?

Thanks
