Hi from Calgary

The manual illustrates cutting the fus 5's lengthwise. I did this and then Questioned MAM. They said that this was fine as long as your not installing spring gear.I noticed in the archives that there are no cut fus 5's.This is a 1650 gross rebel which will someday have floats. Is this alright or should I install uncut fus 5's? Please comment before I go to far.

Murray, structurally the Fus-5's cut in half are as good as whole ones, but it does add to the work required and initially only removes 4 pounds from the airframe. When it comes time to install the control column you will be putting some of that weight reduction back, as you will need to build a reinforced area to mount the control column bearing holders, etc. as they usually rivet into the width of the full tubes.

Hi Murray !

If these are the bottom cross tubes - DEFINITELY use UNcut
tubes. The little extra weight is nothing compared to the extra
strength you gain !

You can use the cut sections of tube to run across the bottom
of the instrument panel. This adds needed support and a place to mount
the throttle, mixture, trim, primer, etc. and leave room for 2 rows of
full-sized instruments. Run the strip along the bottom of the panel,
with notches at the bends, so it goes all the way out to both sides.

Murray I cut my fus 5 as per the instructions as well before all this
imformation was available via the internet. Then I heard of other builders
not cutting through the rebel rouser. I gave getting another tube a lot of
thought but I decided against it because I'm sure that the cut in half
channel is way stronger than the rivets that hold the gussets on.
