Hi Drew !

There have been a few UHS spinners cracking - and a couple
broke up and left the aircraft in flight !!! I had no problems
with mine, but position & balance are very important.

Sorry, I don't have a number for UHS, but I believe that
Wayne O'Shea is an authorized distributor for them....

UHS Spinners

I have given Drew the phone number for UHS, so he can discuss his problem
with Joe personally.

Yes there have been a VERY few spinners crack, but not always to the fault
of the spinner as pointed out by Bob (and in previous discussions on
spinners). Still an excellent choice of spinners in my book. My (10"
diameter) has been on my Rebel since 1995 in front of both a 100 H.P. and a
150 H.P. engine and still looks brand new. Compare that to 3 MAM spinners
now on Howard's 150 H.P., with the current one stop drilled because it
cracked out in the middle of nowhere, between the point and the front
bulkhead. Considering the low cost (compared to most spinners on the market)
and the ease of installation. I will continue to use the UHS spinner, where
a polished aluminum nose "bullet" isn't desired!

Wayne G. O'Shea

UHS Spinners

I bought one of those spinners.
It spun concentrically 5/8" out, and personally I didn't like the looks of
it mated up to the MAM speed cowl.
I originally had an aluminum spinner from MAM, so the cowl setup was for
that spinner.
When I put the UHS spinner on, there was a huge gap between the back of the
spinner and the cowl.
I have embarassing pictures of the ugly installation job for the UHS
spinner.
It never did fly with the Rebel. It's now an ornement slated for some wall.

I have also used a UHS spinner on my 150 HP Lycoming Rebel with no problems.
It was pre-cut to fit my 3 blade Warp drive prop. I made sure that the
spinner and prop are balanced, and use Loc-tite on the screws.

Hi Bob thanks for the info. My spinner cracked during a flight from
killaney to centralia if it had of broken up and departed while I was over
georgian bay I think I'd still be trying to get the seat cushion out of my
ass ;) It looks like it would be fairly easy to repair do you know if
anyone has tried?

Hi Drew !

Several people have repaired cracked spinners - it's almost
a given that they'll crack sometime. You might want to talk to Joe
at UHS for his recommendations....

A bit of good fiberglass work should do it - but be sure to
balance it with an equal blob on the opposite side... ;-)

UHS Spinners

G'day all Today I received a replacement spinner from UHS at no charge. I
had sent the old one back just last friday. When they inspected the old one
they found that the cutouts for the prop blades were in the wrong spot. The
cutouts are supposed to be through an extra layer of cloth on the inside
but on mine someone cut between the extra bits. I'm very pleased with the
sevice from UHS and I'll recommend them to anyone.
