Murphy suggested I try a 2" piece of aluminium pipe shoved directly under
the cooling fins on a cylinder then duct that to the heater control. It
works fine, I rarely have to put it on full to keep warm.

I would fly in not much colder than -10 degrees C though.

It is really simple and safe because you are not ducting air from around the
exhaust pipe.

If you have the speed cowl and high performance exhaust system, finding a
place to put the muff can be a problem.

I have a question for you boys up north. Do you find a single heat muff
enough to warm your feet or is two heat muffs needed to heat the cabin
comfortably?

FWIW I have been told that regs now prohibit any air intake to the cabin
to come from inside the engine cowl (even the pressure side). Supposedly
why you sometimes see ducting all the way forward to the intake behind
the prop.????
