Ski are well on the way, Wayne, time to rivet them up is the issue at the moment ---- building new houses-- buying more farms --- etc etc

wheelHi Wayne,
Thanks for such a fast and thorough response on the ski information!
I had no idea the wheel penetrating skis were so involved--sounds very
elaborate and labor intensive! I am thinking I will probably go with a
forreplacement ski similar to the Aero ski. I saw them listed in Wag-Aero
feetunder $2000US. I am not sure which size/width I would need to handle 2
amof powder. It would seem that bigger is better when it comes to skis; I
smallernot aware of any disadvantage of using big skis vs. smaller ones. You
mentioned a total of 18 sq ft of snow area, I am curious what is required
with wheel replacement skis (length/width).
Regarding the motor mount bolts, I have also been concerned about the
steel.size AN 4 bolts that are commonly used for the Jabiru 6 cyl. installation.
The mount supplied by Jabiru has a 5/8" bushing with a 1/4" bolt hole. I
have considered oversizing to 5/16" which would leave me with a wall
thickness of about 7/32". I am assuming the mount is made out of 4130
sideSo the real question is, where would the weak link be if I drill out to
5/16"? My gut feeling is that the weak link is probably on the airframe
Iwhere the two piece alluminum motor mount bracket is installed behind the
fire wall (regardless of NAS 4 bolt or AN 5 bolt). Anyway, at this point
mightstill plan on using an NAS 4 bolt to keep the wall thickness on the motor
mount bushing as supplied by Jabiru.
Well, again, thanks for all the information and the quick response. (I
didn't post this to the list, but feel free to pass it on to anyone it
help.)
Hope you get some good flying weather soon,
Jim
I don't think the Elite will be flying by then, but I sure would like to
meet up with ya maybe in Manistique, I can fly the C140 there.

Thanks for posting the pics, Mike ! I LIKE your crush tube blocks !
Would like to be able to zoom in on the pics - any way to accomodate
that ?? I'm sure other Elite builders will thank you for the great
detail shots of the elevator tips.
Looks like you are really chugging along making great progress !
A great example for the others ..... ;-)
At the rate you're going, maybe you can join us on the Rebel
Ramble to the West in July ! We'll be going right past your door,
with stops in Manistique and Ashland .... :-) Then on out
to the West coast, and back for Oshkosh.

and elevator of my Elite. Thanks to Al Hepburn for the posted instructionsMerry Christmas,
I recently finished the rounding of the leading edges on both the rudder
in the DCSOL files. I noticed Al, you had rivets in your weight doubler on
the elevator. Although I couldn't see the doubler plates in the pics. My
instructions only show the doubler on the outside and only the two screws
that secure the weights going through them. I added the rivets like you
did, seems like a better deal. If you save some of the scraps from the fus
corners, they make good pieces to work with in this mod. Pics are posted

rudderHi Guys,
I have my Aeronca Chief for sale (so I can seriously look at an engine
for the Rebel) and a prospective buyer is looking for a set of skis for
it. The Chief had Federal 1500's on it at one time so I was wondering if
anyone had a line on a set that might be available? The Chief is now in
"Owner Maintenance" so I think that gives me some flexibility.
Thanks
