VIRUS ALERT - HOAX?

I had received this notice from another source today who followed up
with a message from his IT department stating it was a hoax. Actually he
stated that some idiot in his IT department sent it to him in the first
place. I've checked my drive and I do have the concerned file but it was
last modified in 1998 so I'm thinking maybe the hoax is to get you to
delete something that you need in your OS. Any IT guys know what the
real story is. Delete or ignore?
Subject: Fw: VIRUS ALERT - Please read and act

Unfortunately we received this one too!!!

I was sent this a few minutes ago - and found the virus on my computer !
Following the instructions, I deleted it without difficulty. I strongly
suggest you do the same check......................
