Door Post Alignment

Post by Mike Kimball » Fri Feb 17, 2012 8:56 pm

I'm at the stage of building the "cage assembly" and have reached the part
where I am supposed to attach the fuselage root rib. The manual says that
the distance between the door posts at the top and bottom should be the
same, which makes sense. However, the prepunched holes pretty much makes
everything rigid and sets up the alignment, so there's not a whole lot that
can be done to square things up EXCEPT don't drill the holes into the sills
at the bottom of the side skins until you line things up. Unfortunately, I
had already drilled into the sills before I read the part about measuring
between the door posts. My question is, how much off can the distance
between door posts be and still be usable? I have about 1/8 to 3/16 of a
difference between top and bottom measurements on the right side and about
5/16 of a difference on the left side. Can this be dealt with later when
fitting the doors, or is it imperative that I fix this problem before
proceeding?

Door Post Alignment

Hi Mike !

I'm guessing you're talking about differences fore-and-
aft, on each side ...... probably not as serious as across the
fuse - BUT ...

this sounds like one that should definitely go to the Tech
Dept. at MAM . Loads are transfered through the cage, and certain
alignments are critical.

As you've just been reminded - always read ahead several
chapters before cutting, drilling, or rivetting ! ;-)
(just in case ....)
