Type "A" vs "B" generator?

Guys, I could use some input. I went to an
ignition shop yesterday with my generator (yes
generator). It is stock on my 140 hp LOM
engine. The owner told me that my generator was
type "B" and most regulators are type "A". When
I pressed him for details, he could not tell me
what the difference was, only that I would have
crispy wires if I used a type "A" regulator. He
believes it is simple to change the generator
from "A" to "B" but just does not know how.
Can anyone tell me what the difference is? I
searched the net last night and found nothing.
Also, is it easy to change to type "A"?
