Hi Wray !

The skylight info has changed a bit over the years. The doublers
are now available from MAM, and are pretty pieces with a joggle all
around. This is a MUCH better way to fasten than the old "rivet through
the Lexan" - the Lexan panels are glued in with a flexible adhesive
(Bostick 1100 ??), and the doublers are rivetted in place.

1/8" Lexan should do the trick - there is no problem with
Lexan in flat sheets, it only crazes if bent. Lexan is stronger than
Plexi, and MUCH easier to work, cut & fit. Laird Plastics have it
in various tints ... (You <could> use 1/16" .... )

I would not install the skylights directly behind the seats -
they just sunburn your neck. The front ovals (through the windshield),
the top set, and the rearmost set, are all useful.

Ken the blurb I have on skylights doesn't actually give the dimensions. It
gives the
location of the doublers=A0 ...is this a kit from Murphy? Do you know the
actual hole
locations and size? Is there anything special about the doublers? Are they
just flat?
one piece? inside and out? What thickness should they be. And what=
thickness
plexiglass or ?
Perhaps this has all been discussed and is in the archives?

Yes cut the skylights before rivetting and note the aft ones are NOT
symmetrical due to the aileron linkage.
I put all 8 in but I am going to blank the two that are in the third row
back from the front. Now that I've positioned the seats I realize that
they will just annoy me with the sun coming through them and won't
really add much visibility.

Thanks Drew=A0 I'll trim them today. Just had another thought I would
like to put
in some skylights and had planned on doing it after the roof was in=
place.
Perhaps it's easier before hand?. Also those that have been using
skylights for
a while what are your thoughts now on how many and in what locations?=

Hi Bob,

Welcome back. Are you going to make it to Airventure this year? I will be
there all week and would like to meet as many of you northern neighbors, and
your planes, as possible. Unfortunately my Rebel will still be in the shop,
she and my wife couldn't come this year. The nice thing about planes is they
don't care how many other planes you've flown, or even if you buy airplane
magazines. They also come with strict W&B limitations. Just a little humor.

Does anyone have any experience with or comments about the Ivo Prop? They
make an electric in-flight adjustable 3 blade that weighs 26 lb. Some Kitfox
builders like them better than the WD.

Any one have a firewall diagram with dimensions and measurements showing the
locations of cut outs for throttle, mixture, wires, cabin heat ect. MAM's
instructions just give approximate locations with no dimensions for novice's
like me. I would not like to cut any holes and find out later it should have
been two inches this way or that. I realize a lot of this stuff is up to the
personality of the builder.

I have this plastic reservoir that come with the kit about 2" square. Does
MAM intend this to be a brake reservoir?

That's the intention. Kinda basic & CHEAP. Kinda insulting. Instead of the
plastic reservoir I went with little aluminum reservoirs that attach to the
top of each brake plunger.

I know of a Velocity builder that has 500+ hours on his Velocity + 6
cylinder, 220HP Franklin + in-flight electric IVO. Quite a bit of
teething problems early on, but he has 250+ hours on the latest
hub drive, so Ivo has most of the bugs worked out. Pretty
impressive with the dirty air a pusher's prop has to run in.

Results with an IO-360 are mixed, and one Velocity went down
with that combination. Of course, when you're seeing only two
50HP power pulses per revolution...

Hard to say how well an IVO will work with an O-320 in tractor
mode, but I'd think it'd do well.
