While the silver Matco's will work, you would be MUCH better
off with a set of the Murphy wheels & brakes.
Several builders here had the same problem with the Matco's -
it seems the wheels have too steep a slope on the sides of the rims.
(Although they usually deny responsibility ...) They weren't
consistent - some were fine, others were impossible. That's the major
reason that Murphy felt compelled to develop their own wheels &
brakes...
Some folks have machined the wheels down a bit near the edges,
and that solved the problem. Some used bar soap for lube, then
washed it out with water after fitting - not sure about that lube
you used. You sure don't want the tire to spin after it is seated -
it'll pull the valve stem out !!

Has anyone had trouble getting the bead to fully seat using the silver
MATCO (M62) wheels and the DICO turf tires used on the standard rebel? I
cannot get the bead to fully seat on the rim, I also used the real
slippery rubber lube in an effort to get this to work. MAC suggested
that I call MATCO. I called MATCO and to experiment they tried to mount
a similar tire to the M62 rim and they could not get it to fully seat
even at 40 psi. They tried a McCreary tire with a stiffer sidewall and
it seated fine. They feel that the sidewalls of the DICO tire are too
thin thereby bulging out and just ballooning out without seating. MATCO
has given me the dimension of the wheel diameter to check just in case
there was a manufacturing mistake on the wheel set that I have. I will
ckeck that tomorrow. One suggestion is to clamp a couple of plates to
the sides of the tires in order to contain the bulging. This would also
require the outer diameter to be constrained with a strap to keep it
from bulging also. Hell, I don't want to do that. If I have to fix a
flat, I would need those plates and straps to seat the bead.
I guess it will be back to MAC on Monday to see what they can do.
