What I call a N rivet does not expand radially much and is not an
aircraft part and is not equivalent to an avex rivet. I get the avex
rivets directly from Avdel Cherry Textron at about cdn$50. per thousand
in Toronto where I live. Very good to deal with and no quantity is too
small. There are a couple of Textron American warehouses as well that
would ship to you at around US$30. per thousand I believe, so why mess
with something else. The Toronto number is 1-800-268-9947 or
1-416-679-0622. Ask for sales. I usually deal with Judy. She seems to
enjoy dealing with Rebel builders. Also see their web site. The
certified cherry rivets are MUCH more expensive and some require
expensive pulling tools. I have also seen Avex rivets in several
fastener catalogs in quantities of 100 to 500 so I suspect you may have
a local source as well if you are near a city.
I keep a selection of bolts handy as I sometimes change something or am
not happy with the bolt length specified by MAM. They are cheap and I
will need some for ongoing maintenance anyway. I figure if I don't
bother MAM with little things like a wrong size bolt, they will come
through on any major concerns I have and I have been very pleased with
the factory support when I needed it. Mind you I haven't asked them for
anything recently. They have been busy but they did get the SR and Elite
to sun n fun on tuesday. I think the paint dried enroute. The SR was
sure attracting a crowd.
You are right though that MAM should be certain they are supplying
sufficient rivets to complete the airframe. I have removed a lot though.

Am I the only one building that doesn't seem to have the right number
of rivets and bolts of various sizes? Does anyone else find it's like
pulling teeth to convince Murphy to send you a few rivets here or a
bolt or two there? And when I do convince them, they charge me for
shipping, which usually costs many times the price of the parts I
need. Sure wish there was someplace local to get Avex rivets. Does
anyone know if Cherry-N-BSC rivets can be substituted? I might be
able to get those at the FBO since they are aircraft rivets. I've had
to buy quite a few bolts from the local FBO. Sure is getting
irritating. And, of course, I usually run short of something
essential right when I have a few days off to work on the plane.
