Anyone,

Should all rivets in a line, ie; the rivets in the rear spar to main ribs,
all be inserted from the
same side? Does it make any difference structurally, to have one or more
rivets inserted
opposite from the others in that line of rivets.

I don't like to quote them without having the proof in my hand but I am
certain that MAM is on record as saying that it doesn't matter which way
the rivets go in and that has been the way I have been building. I put
them in from whichever direction is easiest.

Essentially they are designing for the strength of the rivet without
accounting for any additional shear strength from the broken off
mandrell. That is why most literature refers to the avex rivet as a
"non-structural" rivet and also why the rivet has such a wide grip
range.

In some rivet specs you will see two shear strengths listed, one through
the broken off steel mandrel section and another weaker strength for the
area of the alluminum rivet that is hollow.

Jean,
As a general rule always build for future maintenance and repair.
Rivets should go in so they can be drilled out in the future if
necessary. In other words, so the head is accessible. Believe me, you
will have to drill some out. The best method is to knock the rivet
mandrel back with a Noxon spring type (or other spring type center
punch) and then drill off the head. Finally knock out the rivet shank.
