Hi from Calgary;

How do you cut an inspection hole(a nice hole).
Scratched my head, got a scrap piece of aluminum, left hand tin snips, nope not a good idea. Went to the House of Tools bought left hand offset snips, don't go there. Took the snips back to House of Tools along with a piece aluminum, explaned my case and came up with a "nibler".Couldn't justify electric $$$$$, tried the poor mans give it a squeeze kind in the store, $20:00 bucks later, I'm a happy camper.

To get started you have to drill a 1/2" hole. Piece of cake.

I felt I had to write this just in case anyone else is scratching their head.

Hi 505 Another good way to cut holes is to use a circle cutter drill
attachment. It's best used with a drill press but I've used it by hand with
my cordless drill and slow speed. I made all my instrument cutouts with it
lightening holes in my spars and inspection holes in my floats with no
problems.

Hi !

There's an easier and safer way - just get a hole saw drill
attachment from Canadian Tire. They have sizes up to 3", and they
work nicely with a hand drill .....

Of course, that's a bit too small for instruments, but useable
for inspection holes. ;-)

If you need an inspection hole in the fuel tank, and have to
re-seal it, you are best to drill 2 overlapping round holes to leave
an OVAL hole. This way, you can easily insert the <oval> COVER, narrow
side first, and fasten it inside ...

Yup! That's exactly how I did it.
Standing half crouched under the wing and 10 minutes per hole.

If you can do it before the wings goes on, it'll save the shoulder and neck muscles a vigorous workout.

Harbor freight sells a hole cutter with a fly wheel blade on both sides and
it's much easier to use without a drill press because it is balanced.
