Hi to everyone from almost constantly IFR western Pennsylvania. Thought it was time to update the list on my progress on Rebel 298. After 60 hours of flying I am able to perform acceptable landings on a pretty consistant basis. So, as to any previous rants reguarding landing gear, float, tires, control sensitivity, etc. well "never mind". I have pulled my Lyc 320 for rebuild because It was hi time when i installed it, and it was the slow flying season, and the last time i flew it there was an engine miss. I am considering the Mohr/ O Shea type update to my landing gear. I was wondering if anyone could tell me how I could get the proper dispring and maybe a picture of a conversion, I would probably be able to do the rest of the fabrication myself.

I have been flying on a high time borrowed sensenich prop with the idea of replacing it with a composite at some point. Now all this delamination talk has me gunshy any suggestions from the list? ( I know, keep the borrowed sensenich)
Wouldn't it be nice if some composite guru came up with a nice airfoil shaped plastic gear replacement. I could make one but I am too chicken to test it on my airplane.
Cheers
Bob Yarnell

For those people who don't like the factory method of attaching the 1650 bungee gear with just a loose bolt through the fuselage brackets and a thin tube, I make a kit which includes four attachments milled from solid 2024-T3, bronze bushings and hardware. The kit allows the landing gear pivot bushings to be bolted tightly in the fuselage brackets to protect them from excessive wear and damage. I charge $195 CDN or $130 US including shipping. I you don't like it, send it back and I'll refund your money. (I haven't had a return yet)
For more info or a picture, e-mail me or call 250 638-8919. I work rotating shifts and am often not here, but I have an answering machine and will get back to you. e-mail or snail mail is usually easier.

Bob Y. If you are going to try and manufacture your own die spring gear, you might want to try the "kit" offered by WagAero. Cat No. M-222-100 Price is $175.50 U.S. Their "kit" price doesn't make my $500.00 Cdn look too bad, for a finished/proven set of struts, considering they take me about 7 hours to build (per set) and require the use of a tig welder and a milling machine on top of the labour! (If I could just get the interest for 10 sets to order some more material). I guess that's why Morgan Williams at Custom Flight charges around $1850 Cdn for his struts for the Northstar. I don't know for sure if this "kit" from WagAero will work for the Rebel, but I imagine it will. It is probably supplied with the same 142 pound per 1/10th of an inch x 6 inch springs as the springs Aircraft Spruce used to sell (these <will> work on the Rebel). Wagaero's kit includes the collars, 4130 tube etc, where as Aircraft spruce used to give you 2 springs and a drawing! Just make sure that the 4130 tube they supply is long enough for the Rebel strut. The rebel has a wider stance than most aircraft out there, anywhere close to it's size.

Sorry to sound like a snob, but like the previous requests for drawings of my "compression spring" gear strut design, the springs I use are in the same boat. It's all or nothing.

Best Regards,
Wayne G. O'Shea

While I'm not even close to starting the fuselage yet, when you get 9
others, keep me in mind
for a set UNLESS it will cost me an arm and leg to get them out of Canada
and into the US???

Roger, I just put them in a VERY heavy cardboard tube and take them down to
the post office. Nobody seems to care what goes across the border (or to
Australia, etc for that matter) by mail, when you mark the package A/C part
"gift"! It may also help that our Post master is a pilot and knows what I'm
up too!!!!
