Thanks... now a door question
Posted: Sun Feb 19, 2012 11:37 pm
Thanks guys for the quick response... I will head off to the marine supply
store tomorrow to see what I can find. Second option is to use the source
Wayne provided and order online.
Within the next month I will also work on the door latching mechanism, but
wonder if there is a better (but not overcomplicated) way to secure the
door. I have been looking at the spring loaded latching pins from ACS. Has
anyone used these with success?

What I'd sent Roland the other day when I realized the list wasn't
working...
.....................
These are what I have on mine
http://www.bosunsupplies.com/products2. ... duct=S0322
or I've had good luck with stainless bolt style rings from West Marine for a
couple of installations. The sailboat stuff is high strength...
The seat tracks.. just ream the holes a tad until the pins drop in smoothly.
The split pin that retains the spring shouldn't fall out if the holes where
drilled the right size to make them a press fit.

Thanks Mike,
Looks like my original message did not make it onto the list. I have
reposted it here to see if there are any additional comments from other
builders.
Three questions....
1. Any trick to improving the way the seat pins drop down into the seat
tracks? Even with careful alignment when installing the seat tracks, it
seems impossible to get perfect alignment of the pin into the seat track
holes.
2. There is a tiny pin that goes through the seat pin which holds the
spring
in place. Seems logical that constant vibration will cause the pin to move
and possibly come out. Any experience or fixes for this. Bend the sides of
the pin so it cannot slide out???
3. Some builders have installed forged eye rings (bolts) into one of the
holes at the top of the strut to use as tie down points. I have been
searching for one that will fit the 1/4" holes, but without much luck. Can
someone provide me with a source?

Hi Roland,
1 I fitted the rails to the seat with the pins engaged in matching
holes and placed the "assembly" , very carefully, in position on the
floor.
After doing my best to position the rails with equal free movement in all
directions I drilled enough 3/32 holes to positively hold the rails. After
removing the seat, clecoing the rails back in position I drilled the rest
of the holes. As well as the pin engagement I was also worried that the
seats wouldn't slide freely if the rails weren't exactly parallel. Anyway
it worked for me. I did have to do a little filing and panel beating to
get
them to slide freely but the result is good.
2 I'd be surprised if the pins would come loose, and if one did
there is a second one.
3 I found a couple of tie down rings from a Cessna 150 or 172 at the
wrecker which I hope to use but they might be a little short, not sure
yet.
If they are I'm hoping to find something similar. I haven't been able to
find anything new listed anywhere so far.
Hope this is useful Cheers Mike 818R
