I am about to buy an intercom. Does anyone have
suggestions? Right now I am looking at a
Sigtronics SPA-400 for about $210. Anyone have a
used intercom that you want to sell?

A few suggestions scott I'm using a PS engineering intercom now and I.m
really happy with it. It's replacing an RST homebuilt intercom that I
removed because it wasn't working very well. When I installed the PS unit I
found out from the instructions that my problems with the RST unit were all
from poor instalation. When I installed the RST I put the plugs up on the
roof behind me to keep the headset cords out of the way but I ran all the
wires together which is a big nono. Each wire has to be separate and
sheilded. So if you want an already assembled RST intercom I have one cheap

There is a portable noise cancelling intercom on the market now.
Unfortunately, I can't remember whose brand it is. I think it could be an
inexpensive way to continue using your current headsets and still get the
electronic benefit.

Hi Scott !

We've been using a Flightcom IIsx portable intercom for over
9 years now, with good results. Just mounted the whole unit on the
roof, behind the seats and ran the <supplied> wiring harness over and
down the left side of the cockpit, down the front of the cage to
the radio. Wag-Aero sells these units for $119 . www.wagaero.com
1-800-558-6868 (page 21 in the 2001 Feb. catalogue)

One of the nice features is that the unit contains a 9 volt
battery which kicks in automatically if the aircraft power is off.
This means you have intercom before startup, AND after shutdown -
a handy thing. Or you can just remove the battery and have a
normal intercom. The power cord & cigarette lighter plug runs
down the right side of our cockpit, and down to a 3 way lighter
plug box (automotive) - one for the intercom, one for the ICOM
22 handheld nav/com, and one for the handheld Garmin GPS !!!
This makes them ALL easily removable to take to the motel when
travelling, or to use in another airplane.

The Flightcom 403mc panel mounted intercom looks good, too,
at $164.95 .....
