Hi Nig et all
You can buy stainless steel maillons at Lowe's Hardware stores for a reasonable price. I had one come apart (steel) on a flight and ended up loosing control on a landing !!! Make sure you safety wire the closure fastener as they will work themselves loose in time.
Just drill a small hole through the fastener to fit a thin piece of safety wire and fasten it to the opposite side.

Hi All
I've just changed the supplied racetrack shaped connector that attaches the
ail wheel steering chain to the tang off the steering arm as it was going
usty after a few years outside.
I wanted a stainless part instead, and I'm just posting this to let you know
he name of that bit is a Maillon, sometimes called a Rapide fastener.
Available from a few marine chandlers, but I ended up sending a picture of
t to quite a few before anyone came back with the right name to look for it

[rebel-builders] Maillon (tail wheel chain steering link)

Nigel,

Not sure if these are the racetrack type that have rusted for you, or a
bona fide Maillon-ish gizmo <g> but FYI... I used "connector clips" (ACS
p/n 06-15400 $2.45US ea., p. 276 of 2011-12 catalog) on both ends, which I
believe are stainless. Photos are at http://n254mr.com/node/1846 and
http://n254mr.com/node/1847 . FWIW, they've got 18 mos. and 160 hrs. on
them with no signs of rust.

With a little persuasion, they fit through the small holes in the Iron
Designs tailwheel steering horn, which I was reluctant to enlarge. I safety
wired them, which is not required and probably overkill, but seemed like a
good idea at the time.

Ron
