I haven't done the ones on the floats, but I did do the wheel gear. I just
took the o-ring to Parts-R-Us and found the same thing there. After
cleaning up the cylinder and piston it worked fine.

Thanks Gary and Dick Yes it's my wheel gear brakes that are leaking. My floats have cleveland wheels and brakes.

Hi Drew

I bought the following set off ebay a couple of months ago (I think the item
is still active)

High QuaIity imperial O Ring Seal Kit 382 Piece
Item Number 140586153714

There was one size in the set that was a match and sorted a slow leak I had
on my JDM caliper.

I presume everyone smooths the cylinder bore when replacing o-rings. I
just use around 300 or 400 wet sandpaper. So far I've not seen metric
o-rings in any of this stuff. If I don't have the correct o-ring in
stock, in Canada 'Rubberline' is my first choice for 0-rings, 'Spaenaur'
next. Standard common buna o-rings in assortments from places like
'princess auto' or a farm supply work just fine for oil but the
assortments seldom have ones large enough for calipers.

There have been a few cases where due to excessive wear or incorrect
parts the piston has extended too far causing leaks but I'd expect quick
loss of all the fluid if that was the situation.

As general source you can find O-rings at local places that repair
hydraulic cylinders and industrial suppliers. If McMaster Carr will
deal with you they will have them. I'm not too keen on the Princess
Auto level of quality for something like this.

If you're using automotive brake fluid you want EPDM material, otherwise
the typical Buna-N/Nitrile is probably the choice if you're using
MIL-H-5606.

This:
http://www.efunda.com/designstandards/o ... MIL-H-5606
is a good on-line look-up for fluid compatibility.

Elite583 and nowhere near doing brakes :-(
