of it. No proseal on the overlapping leading edge skin either. When they
couldn't fix that they just drilled the tank skin off... cut the ribs right
out.. stuck ceiling tile type "mush" board in the bottom of the wing to
level it with the stringer and then put in some (really well done)
fiberglass tanks, retained with expanda foam!, and threw a lid on the
entire
affair.

To top it off the poor gentleman that purchased this aircraft had the
engine
pack it in within a few hours of purchase as well. Just glad that Bob P.
got
wind of the tank "upgrade" issue and broke the news to the new owner. He's
already added more money to the purchase with a fresh O-320 install after
the engine failure and structural failure wouldn't have made his day I'm
sure.

I guess I'm pointing this out for all to see/read so that nobody else gets
a
similar "great idea" to disregard the wing design and do similar. For those
that recognize the paint colour..well ya you know where it came from.

Right on Wayne! I have seen plenty of similar stuff with repairs to Cessna's. I have been struggling with deciding to sell my 70% structure complete Elite and how I can assure the buyer that the closed wings and tail feathers were done right. Or worse, the buyer messing up and blaming me for bad workmanship? I am wondering now if I should just scrap it and sell the un-used parts.

How many hours on the airframe as a matter of interest - just goes to show
the strength of the design when it's done properly !!

Like I said Garry they did an outstanding job building the fiberglass
tanks.. ..they're a work of art. Just wish as much thought and skill had
gone into the modification. They could have incorporated some more into the
tanks so that they tied into the spars and stringers, to make it as strong
or stronger than original. Instead it's got to be the scariest thing I've
seen in my 18 years of tearing these things apart and putting them back
together... and I've seen some real scary stuff previously.
