Hi Clay !

Sounds like you're really making progress !! You'll be
flying soon !!!! (You'll LOVE it !! ;-) )

There's likely a very good reason why Murphy did not want those
openings any larger - and note the round corners !! There are structural
loads going through that skin .... I'd want to check with the factory
before a mod. like that !

It is a "Good Idea"(tm) to bend the edges of those openings
inward slightly, AND to cover them with rubber 'U' channel - the edges
CAN scrape the windshield during fitting, or even in flight.

Hi Guys'
I'm about to cut out my 2 forward skylights (the 2 under the windshield)
but I noticed that they seem small. The latest instructions I have show
an 11 inch open starting 7 inches in from the sides. I'm tempted to
enlarge the opening to around 12 or maybe 13 inches wide, leaving 5 or 6
inches on the side. Is there any reason why I shouldn't? Any comments
would be appreciated.
Thanks.

The only knok to that is if you plan on using the factory headliner. It's
based on the given dimensions for the corrisponding hole.
Good luck and keep at it it's worth it !!! Curt N97MR

Thanks for the feedback. I'll check with the factory on Monday before
cutting. I was just hoping for another inch or 2 of width, and I would
still like to be able to use the factory headliner. Yes, I do remember
something about rounding the edge downward ... that makes good sense.
Was there some info posted a while back on making an edge tool?
Something about using shower door rollers, I think.
Also, I want to thank everybody for often including those encouraging
words like "keep at it, it's worth it" at the end of their message.
Those words certainly don't go unnoticed when your at my stage with
still so much to do. Thanks again!

Clay

More questions,
Does a person want to install skylights while doing roof skin install or
sometime later?
Also, is there some sort of issue putting side windows behind seats like
I have seen in some planes?
Thanks,
Mike Betti
