Hi ray Welcome aboard. Changing from the spring gear would require a LOT of work. You'd have to disassemble most of the fuselage floor to install the attach points for the gear. You didn't say if you have split flaps or flaperons but either way it's pretty easy to look out the window to see where they are. The truth is they aren't really very effective anyways.

Hi all My name is ray and I live in Seattle and recently bought a Rebel in
California and flew it up north to Arlington. I have been lurking on the board
and searching the archives to glean specific knowledge about these planes
which I have coveted over the years.n-2293c has the spring gear and a 290
with a 4blade warp drive prop.I had spoken to Bob Patterson about this plane
and he thought it might have issues and I sort of cooled it for a while but did
take the plunge as it was the only rebel I was going to be able to afford. It
flys good and the motor makes good power, all is well for now. My main ? to
the group is what is the current thinking about landing gear, and is there a
source for some real hardy bungee gear and how big a deal would it be? I
have more ? of course and am trying to hook up with Steve Sloan who is on
the field and highly recommended as a person and Rebel guy but have not
caught up to him yet. I,m practicing my landings w/o flaps for now as I only
have a simple up down switch and no indicator, this is the current # one thing
to fix and I hope to figure out exacly what I need to make the flaps practical
to use. I better stop here...Ray

You can always look up the mods that Alister (Alistair?) did in the
archives. Also a photo there I believe. IMO his spring gear is now
better than bungee gear even if the bungees are replaced with die springs.

Hi Ray!

Welcome to the group. As you've found out, it's a valuable source of info
(and entertainment at times).

And a big thanks to Mike Davis for all of his work running this thing!

Hi Craig thanks for the welcome. This is the best part of the web for me.
Free wisdom for the asking. On my trip up from California everyone I met was
helpful and kind to me,I had forgotten what great people hang out at
airports!

Thanks so much for the reply and info on rebels.I was not sure if the
existing fittings I was seeing on the plane were for bungee gear or floats,I
will take a picture to share.I would probably not do it anyway unless I
damaged the spring gear and was mostly wondering about where every one was
on the spring gear and if good bungee gear was even readily available off
the shelf. This plane has been reinforced per the person I bought it off of
but he was not the original builder and he had no pictures of the work so
I,m in the dark some on this. Its not broke and I,m doing my best to keep it
that way. I will try the flaps again and see if I can get enough of a view
of them to be comfortable with a manual control. I,m doing my approches at
75 mph right into the flare and we are getting along pretty good so far and
I,m going for some refresher dual for my biannual soon I hope,if I can find
the right instructer.I have read that the flap deploy speed is 65, does this
sound right? I will slow down accordingly,I,m mostly keeping my speed up for
now as I learn the plane better, would like to go with a good rebel driver
and soak up some wisdom some day.

Hi Ken Thanks for the hello and info. I will look this up and see what he
did. I,m keeping my speeds up for now and trying to not do a 'drop in'. The
plane has a powerful rudder and is keeping me out of trouble so far.I had
one pretty exciting crosswind landing at Aurora Oregon, and lifted a wing
slightly on rollout but I am landing upwind in all cases now and building
hours. These planes have very good manners in my limited experience
