Hey Tim,
Ok here's my .02 on your questions.
First, the IPAD. No weather yet, they claim they are working on it. The moving map stuff I've seen on them all have monthly costs for the updates. Not the best veiwing in the bright cockpits, but they'd be fine in a Rebel/Elite/Moose/Yukon/ SuperRebel.(hope I didn't forget any:).
I prefer the aAnywhere map stuff. One time cost for lifetime updates on VFR, IFR charts and plates are available. As for the XM weather, that runs about 30.00 per month US. More if you want wind aloft and lightning.
As for props go with the Catto! (IMHO) His props are winning shortest takeoff and Reno airraces!! all at 13lbs!
Good luck,
CU at OSH

Hello Rebel Builders:

am starting to put together a game plan for OSH11, (I know, but I am
lways a day late and... well you know the rest) and I was wondering if any
f you have seen or heard of anything new or special that I should be
ooking for at this years show.
One of the things that the guys from home here want me to research is an
pplication for an IPad that not only shows the sectional charts/enroute
harts, but also has real time weather. Right now you can get real time
eather from Garmin on some of their products, but I think it runs about
600 a year. Which is not bad if you have the money, and the need. But what
s out there new and or cheaper?
Also interested in all forms of lightweight instruments and electronic
ngine displays. The key word here is light weight, and cheap would help.
Maybe simple is a better word)
I also would like to get some fresh insight into engine selection. I wrote
ycoming, and they SAY that the IO-233 will ship next month, and cost
Please sit down) $23,000. Anybody know the current cost of a new Rotax?
Also does anyone recommend a particular overhaul shop for a Lyc O-235? I
ike the O-235, but it is a little heavy. I want to find out the weight of
he 233, but it may not matter given the price. (And also that it is a new,
ow field time, unproven engine. Never mind that it is based on the O-235).
What about props? Sensenich has their new ground-adjustable prop, but my
riend Charlie Eubanks has been waiting 13 weeks against a promised delivery
f 4 weeks. He is supposed to get it this week, so he should have a fresh
eport as to how it looks.
So there are some general subjects. If anyone has some info or more fuel for
he fire, I would be happy to hear about it.

Try foreflight ... there's a service fee, but it's quite reasonable ... you
can get a trial version on the app store.

I have the iPad ForeFlight app and have used it on numerous cross-country
flights. It is worth every cent! It is a FANTASTIC application with a
staff that answers any and all emailed questions literally within minutes.
I'd be happy to demonstrate the app, answer questions and let you try it at
Oshkosh.

I also have foreflight on ipad and it is very limited in Canada. I agree it
is great in the US
but it needs some serious extension for the rest of the known world.
