List server problems

Just a quick note... the old list server is working fine, so once you've
deleted all the crap, please continue your discussions. Again, I'm terribly
sorry about all the junk. I'm working with a couple of people trying to
figure out what's going on... and periodically we have to start the software
up. It appears so far anyway that each time I have done this it has created
one "undeliverable" message. I'm not sure if everyone is getting this, or
just me... I've deleted everybody else's e-mail address out of the new
servers database in an attempt to keep that from happening. I you are still
receiving an occasional junk message, I apologize again.

Mike

List server problems

As I'm assure every member of the murphy-rebel-d list is already aware...
the list server went haywire again! I apologize for the inconvenience this
places on all the digest list members, I personally got 1159 messages in my
mail before I stopped it. I hope nobody else got it quite this bad, I
deleted almost 200,000 files from the message queue still waiting to go out.
I wish I knew what was causing this, but all I know is that this is the
second time a message has gotten stuck in a loop, and was being sent to
digest members only, over and over. There was an update available to the
software, which I have installed, but the notes with the update did not
mention corrections of any problems like this. I have provided samples of
the message files generated along with logs and a description of the problem
to the software developer. It still may be prudent though to change your
subscription to regular mode if you are currently using digest. Again I
apologize for the inconvenience, I know this puts a considerable burden on
everyone's systems.

Mike, would the loop have anything to do with the one member on the list
(and I can't remember who it is!) that puts auto answer on his e-mail that
come back and say he is out of the office and will be back..... This would
possibly cause the loop as his notification message goes to the list and
then back to his computer and back to the list, etc.??

I don't know just a thought, on a possibility!

That should affect the entire list, and this problem is just affecting the
digest portion. The message isn't being received repeatedly, just sent
repeatedly... I'm pretty sure the "last message number" field isn't getting
updated, therefore the list server always thinks there's a new message, when
in fact it is the same one. I just don't know why it does it.

List server problems

Just wanted to let everybody know that there is a problem with the list server
that I'm working on... messages posted to the list are being received by the
server, but not being placed in the appropriate message conference. The list
server will not process them until they are in the correct conference, so
nothing is going out. Until I solve this problem, the only way to get a
message to go out to the list is log into the archives, open the appropriate
list (i.e. murphy-rebel), then click "New" and enter your message directly in
the archives. The list server will see the new message and process/send it to
all list members. The only catch here is that you must have your own login to
do this, the generic login does not have "create new" privilages. Hopefully I
will be able to get this solved quickly... sorry for the inconvenience.

Just a quick update... I've modified the default login (rebel/builder) to
allow posting to the list archives. Until I figure out what the problem is,
please log into the archive site, and enter your messages in using the web
interface.

I'll keep you posted.

Just wanted to let everyone know that right now the list server is not
working properly. Any messages you send to the list via email are being
received, but not processed. In order for your message to be posted and
sent out to list members you'll need to log in and post it via the web interface
in the "1 - Rebel Builders" conference.

I'll let you know as soon as I get this straightened out.
