Karl
I purchased a MC-3a nose bowl that had very poor quality at the lip where
the cowl doors should rest. I called ACS and complained that their mold
needed repair a long time ago. It did not seam to bother them very much.
They said I could return it and get my money back. Like you I didn't know
where else to get another one so I elected to repair the cowling if they
would send me the fiberglass and resin needed at no charge. They agreed but
I whish now I had look around for another supplier. May be Wag Aero has
better quality.

I ordered a MC-7 style nosebowl cowl from Aircraft Spruce to help build
an entirely new cowling for my Rebel. It arrived and I was upset by the
poor quality of the finish of the work and the fact that there was no
inset at the rear of the nosebowl for the aluminum of the cowl. I showed
it to a fellow rebel owner and he too was amazed at the poor quality. We
supposed that maybe Spruce had changed suppliers or something as their
quality is usually OK.
I will call them Monday to discuss the problem, but in the meantime I am
looking elsewhere and have not found another source for an MC-7 type
cowl. Does anyone know of another supplier?

Thanks,

Karl Hipp

thanks Charlie, I don't see the MC-7 in Wags catalog, but I will call
them Monday. Their prices seem a lot higher, but if the quality is
there, that is OK.

[rebel-builders] MC-7 cowl

Hi Karl !

The standard way to provide a lip for the top cowl doors is to
rivet a strip of .025 (or .032 ..) aluminum, about 1.5 or 2" wide,
all around the inside of the rear of the nosebowl. Half under
the nosebowl, half sticking out at the rear. This provides
a lip for the doors to rest on, giving a flush top, AND greatly
STIFFENS the nosebowl, helping to prevent cracking.
