I'd heard about a Peterborough area float plane pilot being killed in the big wind storm but had no idea who till your post.
Hugh was a great guy and I'm sad to read this.

For those that knew him, Hugh had two Rebels based out of Martinair North of
Lindsay. He'd sold one, but unsure if he sold the other one or that this was
the accident aircraft.

It went from flat calm to 100K+ on Wednesday afternoon, instantly. A wind
that almost blew our daughter right off the front porch of the house. We
found her clinging to the citadel stone, with her fingers in between the
stones! Any one of us could have been caught in this wind and flipped our
float plane. Give some thought to how you would get out of yours.......

Narrative: The privately-registered, amphibious float-equipped
Cessna 180E aircraft was on a VFR flight from [origin and destination not
reported]. NAV CANADA staff at Toronto ACC were advised that the aircraft
was inverted in Balsam Lake (near Fenelon Falls). It was reported that there
were large thunderstorms in the area at the time. Ontario Provincial Police
(O.P.P.) were on scene. J.R.C.C. Trenton dispatched a SAR helicopter to the
scene. The pilot was fatally injured.
