4 door cowl hingpin

Hello All
In reference to the Rebels "4 door metal cowl". Is there anything short of
normal wear and tear that will reduce the force and difficulty required to
thread the hinge pins in and out to open/close the cowl doors. I thought I
read that using a smaller dia. hinge pin would help?
