Fuel guages

Hi Charlie and all, Until 818R flies I'm flying my ultralight Drifter which
has a sight guage like the Rebel, it is about 2 yards behind the pilot, so
visibility isn't easy. We have stuff called "contact" here, which is
coloured sheets of plastic with contact adhesive applied that school kids
use to cover their books. We have found that a narrow strip (less than 1/4
of tube circumference, and red works well) applied to the guage tubing
opposite the viewer (so the viewer looks through the tube and fuel at the
strip of contact behind) has a lense effect making the fuel level MUCH more
visible. Not sure whether it's necessary for the Rebel but might be worth a
try.
I like the simplicity and reliability of sight guages and will use
them on 818 but wonder if anyone has found a way to have the tube lie flat
against the inside of the fus root rib, rather than take the almost semi
circular route between the upper and lower fittings? Which isn't good for
accuracy.
Cheers Mike

Thanks for the extra input, I hadn't thought of marking the guages
themselves, and the glass ones sound interesting too. Thanks all.
Cheers Mike
