[rebel-builders] RE: Tail pipe sport

On my first engine, the 320, the tail pipes were smaller with no ball
joints, so had them attached directly to the engine. On my new 360, I have
larger tail pipes with ball joints, so have them attached to the bottom edge
of the firewall with flexible supports.

Charlie,
Others with 'hands-on' experience will chime in, I'm sure, but everything
I've
read suggests the most significant vibrations occur during engine start-up,
where the engine significantly rocks around on it's mount. Thus, it would
make the most sense to me to tie the exhaust stack to the engine if at all
possible. In fact, I was also under the impression that they are better off
unsupported than incorrectly supported by a structure in isolation from the
engine (unless, of course, you have included spring-loaded spherical ball
joint
(s) in the exhaust system).
