At a slow taxi speed, can you lock one up and 360 pivot (with power added)
around it? ... if so, I'd say you're good to go.

wouldn't lock up if you stood on them.They hold for a full run up and
the manouvering in sharp turns is great but rolling out on the
runway ..............just say you will never leave any skid marks.Is
this all I can expect?Appreciate any comments.

If you can hold yours for a full power run-up that's a way better than mine.
One of the local guys here made the mistake one time, of having his toes on
the brakes on landing (don't know how he did that), and ended up with a flat
spot on each tire. Had to get new ones, and they were very low hours, almost
like new otherwise.

My weak brakes are quite adequate for me, as long as I can still turn on
lumpy grass, that's good enough for me. Plenty of braking power for slowing
down after landing, so that's not a problem.

I'd concur. Mine are much softer than straight wheels as well. No way
can I lay down a skid mark. Grease/oil dripping out of the bearings
forced me to replace one set of pads which helped a lot. Now I can just
barely hold it for a full power runup.

Very often I can taxi and turn just using rudder and flaperon to steer.
Full down flaperon/aileron on one side helps turning considerably on the
ground as well as on the water.

<g>... Even with my old 320, I think I could only hold about 1900 rpm IIRC.
Now it is just 16 or 1700. For some reason, my brakes are not as strong as
some. They are the original Cleaveland type, not JDM as I believe some are.
I know the pucks are not very big on mine.

Sounds about the same as mine. If they've been sitting in the water for a while I clean the disks with spray on brake cleaner as they tend to get a bit oily from grease breaking down.

Mine are about the same as Walter's. Never really had any problem though. On
wheels or amphibs I cannot hold it beyond 1900 rpm(150 hp), but on wheels
that is with the old small (undersized) Matco Gold's with reinforcements
built in. I will be swapping wheels next fall to the more recent Murphy's
which will give me some concern about braking too hard but less concern
about over stressing the golds. My habits with the old ones are to stomp on
them fairly hard to get them to do anything and a nose over is simply not
possible. I will have to be careful for a while.

If you can hold it while runnin up, I think thats all you really need.
If the brakes are too good they could cause more problems than they
prevent. My Kawasaki brakes are way better than the originals and will
hold it for a runup but will not bring it to a screeching halt--they
just help slow it down and turn.
