Lyc 320 - 0 SMOH a good idea?

Like a lot of things, I'm over thinking engine selection. I've mostly been
keeping an eye out for a mid-time engine, because I'm not crazy about flying
a 0 time engine (at high power settings) on a new airframe. Having read a
few articles on proper break-in procedure, I'm relaxing some on that, and
tempted to respond to some 0 SMOH ads. Coupla questions:
Would you buy a 0 time engine without much references on the rebuilder's
experience?
Has anyone built a cooling duct and run a new engine on a test stand? I
understand that may also require a "club" prop.
