[rebel-builders] seats again

I'm 5'10" and have 3" of conforfoam that tapers to 4" at the forward
part of the seat. For me it is an inch too high as the frame around the
top of the door window obstructs my view of traffic unless I duck. I
used one layer of medium and soft for everything else. I would use only
soft conforfoam for everything if doing it again unless I lived in a
very warm climate. Conforfoam is the most comfortable seat that I've
tried but it hardly compresses at all compared to cheap foam rubber,
especially when cold.

My base is aluminum sheet wrapped around the frame and riveted to
itself, not to the frame. An obusforme back support can make a great
seat back.

I'm looking at making Rebel seats and see recommendations from at least Bob
P that the seat bottom should be 6-8", uncompressed. This could be 1" each
of the three densities of Confor Foam, on top of a 3" base of something less
expensive. Anyone have suggestions for what that underlying base could be
made from? I'm surprised Hitech (seatfoam.com -- ConforFoam sheet
suppler) recommends polystyrene, considering its flammability.

I used Canvas from a fabric supplier. Spray can glue, stretched and wrapped
around the tubes.

Then the 3 layers of 1" colored ConforFoam as the aircraft upholstery
(Oregon Aero www.OregonAero.com) shops use. These guys were very helpful
when searching for ideas, just don't say you aren't buying from them when
you ask for the "free" information. Add a little extra soft foam to the
sides of the bottom and back to help cradle you in place. I suggest a visit
to the automobile dealership show rooms, and try out some of the bucket
seats for ideas.

I bought Leather Cow Hydes from B & B Aircraft Supplies 1-913-844-5930
Kansas, 3 years ago at OSH in the "Fly Market" area. Dan had about 300+
Cessna Citation Hydes at the time selling for $135.00 each. My wife's
machine would not handle the sewing so I had a local automotive shop install
the material, It took one hyde for each two seats, and they said it was very
good quality.
