[rebel-builders] dynafocal engine exhaust hangers

To explain this hanger in words..... it's a tab with a 7/16" hole drilled in
it.. welded to some 3/8" tube about 6" long. You then make a similar unit
for the exhaust end, with a bent tab that will take a gear clamp on the
exhaust pipe, and again 3/8 tube welded to it that is just shy in length of
reaching the one on the engine lord mount bolt, Join the two metal pieces
with a short length of 3/8" ID rubber hose.

That would be 11/16 wrench on the nuts...

.. Jesse I'd be doing it with the mount attached to the airplane! Install
the bottom ones first and get them pulled in a bit and let the weight of
the
engine help you get the top ones in easier.

Also.. the bottom bolts that go in the lord mounts.... the best exhaust
hangers I've seen to date get attached to these and need to go on the bolt
before it's installed to the mounts. This allows the exhaust to move
around
with the engine and makes for a clean install.

I've sent you a picture directly.. I'll try to remember to upload to the
gallery later.

Hi Jess
Don't know if this will help are add to the confusion. I have Murphy's
Dynafocal mount and I ordered Barry mounts for my engine #94150-40. They
required AN7 bolts, and I used MS21042-7 all metal nuts. Requires a 5/8
wrench on the bolt and a 1/2" on the nuts. No problem installing. You
might
check cross ref number with Lord.

Thanks Craig,
Yeah, I'm wondering if I needed to get thinner mounts so the geometry
would be better. I got the part number directly from Lord based on the
engine and the inside dia of the mount rings. I didn't even consider
that
there might be differences in the thickness with different part #s and
how
that would effect the geometry of the whole assembly. Oh well, I'll
torque
it down and see what happens. I don't know about this dynafocal thing;
parallel bolts would be a lot easier to deal with. My bolts are 7/16
which
needs a 5/8 wrench. I'm thinking the only practical way to torque the
assembly is to hold the nut and turn the bolt?

[rebel-builders] dynafocal engine exhaust hangers

Thanks guys,
Well like most things this will be a lot easier the second time around. Actually everything worked out really well though. I got the mounts torqued down and they came mostly into alignment. I am surprised how much they compressed. Then the whole deal slid onto the firewall pretty easy, with a little pounding and about 10 minutes after that the UPS guy showed up with my prop so I got to stick that on for the full effect. Pretty cool!
Wayne, those exhaust hangers look like a great thing. I will try to do something like that, but of course then I will have to undo what I just did, unless I used a slotted hole for where it goes onto the engine mount bolt. Thanks for the picture. I see what you mean about using the weight of the engine to help get things to line up...like I said, the second time will be easier.
here's a pic.
