Hi Wayne,

Sorry to hear about your daughter.

If you want to pursue an added route for treating cancer, give me a note.
Lost a bro and sis before we found anything, now havea bro 86 after 15 years
since cancer, and a wife, about 12 years, everybody going strong. Minimum
'standard' treatments.

Phil.

Just to complete the story... it turned out that #4 had a cracked exhaust
valve head to boot. My engine guy figures I should go buy a lottery ticket
as it was probably no more than a few hours from letting go and costing
MUCH

more money! Catastrophic money...

So I had him do all four cylinders... $1072 and I supplied a new exhaust
valve that I had in spares. All cylinders pressure checked for cracks....
valves/seat faces redone and new exhaust guides and install gasket sets.
Of
course it took 3x longer to put it all back together than it did to rip it
apart.. but man what a difference. I thought it was my technique or
something that sucked all summer.. but it was just lack of power. Test
flew
her this afternoon and grass take off cut in half compared to leaving in
June and climb up from 800 fpm to 1100fpm. Things that make you go.. "why
didn't I look at it a little more seriously".

215 hours SMOH... run on nothing but 100LL. #4 was down to 58/80.... all
leakage air blowing (roaring) out the exhaust. Was going to try the rope
trick for a valve seat lap, and I started into that and got the springs
removed..... only to find that the exhaust valve to guide clearnance was
like throwing a wiener down a hallway.

Was told if one was that way..they probably all were, so I put the # 4
back
together to get an indication of how much the valve stem moved with the
spring/keepers installed and sure enough they are all about the same. Off
to
the engine shop tomorrow for new guides and possibly valves. Thankfully I
have a couple sets of valves... so I know they won't be needed!

Thanks Mike.. we're sure hoping we have the luck of the Irish on our side
for the next battle in the family as well.... our 25 year old daughter
Jennifer, just diagnosed with Ewing's Sarcoma in her right pelvic bone.
One
of the rare bone cancers with only 40 or so diagnosis' a year in Canada vs
the tens of thousands of other cancers..... starts Chemo on Monday. Gonna
be
a rough haul for her.. at a current 96lbs.. but she'll beat it !

Subject: Next Murphy Builders Meeting - THIS Sunday, Nov. 14th !

It's that time again !!!

The next Murphy Builders of Ontario Meeting is Sunday, November 14th,
at 1:00 pm. at the RAA-TR Hangar at the north end of Brampton Airport.
====== ==========
(North-West of Toronto, Ontario, Canada) (CNC3)

*** Note the START TIME !! There's going to be a LOT of interesting
stuff to cover, so...... We will start at 1:15 , and
try to finish about 4:00 -- to make things easier for those
who fly in, or drive in from long distances ...

*************************************************************************
Bring those 'tech support questions' and some things for Show 'n Tell !
---------------------------------------------
We'll be in the hangar again - hope it warms up ! Dress warmly !!
(or maybe we can use the clubhouse again ... ;-) )

We hope the Black Sheep Rebel Squadron will be able to fly in
again - thanks for your support at the last meeting !

**********************************************************************
You don't want to miss all the fun, so PLEASE BE HERE for 1:00 !
**********************************************************************

We're going to continue the 'kit type' forum format for
this meeting, with Q & A. These forums are short 'mini-seminars' on
the different kits. Ken has kindly become leader of the Rebel forum,
and he always brings new and interesting information & gadgets. He
<may> bring his "Rebel Rubber Ducky" to the meeting again. We're
always look forward to his tips & tales of float building, and whatever
else he'll bring !

We're still hoping to see our first fly-in Moose for this meeting !
Sure hoping for good weather ... and a chance to check out a
flying Moose !

We're looking for experienced builders to volunteer
to lead the sessions for the Moose, Elite, etc., ideally on a regular
basis for all future meetings.

Maybe an Elite expert will make it to this meeting, OR -
we might even have a fly-in NEW Elite from Stoney Creek !! :-)
We also hope to see some of the new Rebels in Ontario ...
There's room for a Maverick section, too, if we have interest....

Who will be recognized as the builder who has
"Made the Most Progress Since the Last Meeting" ??
It's always a tough call, and now the building season is slowing -
- so be here for the introductions & progress updates !!

YOU could take home the Copper Cleco Trophy !

-- Who is next for this one ???

The trophies will be back,
...... so we can award one to YOU this time -
- IF you've been busy rivetting ! ;-)

Lots of news ! Come learn the latest on the NEXT Rebel Ramble -
we had to cancel this year -- trying again for 2011 !

Come learn the latest from the factory - things are moving again,
with production runs now on for Floats and Mooses !!

We REALLY hope the weather will be good, so we can see a
bunch of "Fly-In" Rebels/Elites/Meeses/whatevers !! The weather
channel is calling for rain, but we hope to get a good turnout anyway.

Don't take chances if it's raining -- better to DRIVE & arrive alive !!

If you do drive, you can join us for pizza & beer afterward !! ;-)

We'll also have some new guests & Rebel builders, and another
draw for Rebel crests...

As always, we'll have some useful software CDs to hand out
at the end, for those still suffering with/from Win-Doze ! :-)

Should be an interesting meeting !

Phone us for updates or directions - (905) 457-5238.

Hope to see you all there ! There is a lot of experience to share ...

----------------------------------------------------------------------

Free coke, spring water, coffee & donuts, as usual - everyone welcome !
(Even if you don't have a Rebel <yet> !) ;-)

We'll have tea, muffins, bagels, cream cheese, & jam, too !!

.....bobp & Anna

--------------------------------------------------------------

p.s. We usually go out for pizza & beer after the meeting - all welcome !

Next Meeting - Sunday, January 9th, 2011 !

I recently installed a Catto prop and went with 78" to give me a little
more
clearance when on skis. I started out with 45 pitch, and had to get
repitched
to 47.5, which is just right, about 2750 rpm WOT level flight. I have a

had calculated originally. Craig was great to deal with, the product is
excellent, and I would recommend his prop. I believe he just came out with

Curt Martin has a 3 blade Catto that he loves. I wanted to go with a 2

but not sure if I have enough ground clearance. Catto is suggesting a
diameter between 78"-82" and pitch from 42-46 (I have a 160hp O-320). I
don't quite have the engine hung yet to measure from prop flange to the
ground. I'm on 8.50 tires with Wayne's spring gear so I think I should be
OK
with a 78" prop anyway. Can anyone provide some data points on both prop
clearance with longer props and or Catto props on a Rebel?

I'm looking for any parts out there to make a complete left elevator for

for the next battle in the family as well.... our 25 year old daughter
Jennifer, just diagnosed with Ewing's Sarcoma in her right pelvic bone.
One
of the rare bone cancers with only 40 or so diagnosis' a year in Canada

be
a rough haul for her.. at a current 96lbs.. but she'll beat it !

Wayne....Judy and I are hoping and praying for you and your daughter. We
know well what you are going through as
we lived the scene with our 31 year old son last year and unfortunately
lost the battle. Be strong for her...she never needed you more than
right
now. Bob Cressman 331R

Anyone have any knowledge of the Rebel on amphibs at the Villeniuve
airport
near Edmonton? Was built by Roland Pressner from the US and is currently
owned by a Roger KING of Spruce Grove, AB but based out of Fort
MacMurray. It's been sitting on the ground with the gear obviously not
under
any pressure and appears to be in an abandoned condition. Has not moved
for over a year and a half. Thanks to those who respond.

Thanks Dale, It's all we can do..... be optimistic and positive, as it's
gonna be a long haul for sure.

Not sure why she drew the bad health card. 2 years ago it was finally
surgery that fixed her 12 year battle with Crohn's and now this. She's a
fighter though.. during her Crohn's battle she still managed to attend
enough of her 4 years of University that she still graduated with
Honours...
and her surgery was in Feb of her final thesis term. She's got way too
much
ahead of her in life to not beat this as well.

Hi All
I am ready to power up my Whelan Strobes for the first time and I recall
someone saying that they should be powered up gradually if the have been
in
storage for a while.
I have a universal a/c adapter which puts out 6, 7.5, 9, and 12 volts DC
up
to 2500 milliamps. I wonder if this would be sufficient to do the job.
Whelan told me that the lights do not have to be connected for this task..
What are your thoughts?
