[rebel-builders] Fuel filler necks

I believe the vent holes should face the rear as per the plans. That is how
I did mine.

Face them forward. If they face rearward there is a low pressure area
behind the hole. Fuel will be more likely to come out the vent when you
have full or almost full tanks. Mind originally faced backward and I
changed them to the front and fixed the problem of leaking fuel.

Hi Gang,

Getting ready to install the fuel filler necks in my tank top skins.
Noticed that the fuel caps have two vent holes opposite each other. Should
the filler necks be installed so that the cap vent holes are facing leading
edge/trailing edge, or should they be facing wing root/wing tip? Or does it
matter?

Thanks for the help.

Hi Harry !

I had mine set up left & right - also drilled them out a bit,
to 1/16"... I also drilled two 1/8"+ holes in the top of the
filler necks, on the sides, so they would be sheltered from
wind & rain by the lip of the tank cap, but open to vent.

That arrangement is still flying happily, over 18 years later !
Never had a problem with fuel flow ...

That was early days, so no cross vent tube (definitely a
good idea ! ), and no inverted "J" tubes in the fairings over
the gap between wing & fuse ... (at least one is good ..)
Would do those today ...
