[rebel-builders] air vents and parker flex tubing

I have both the NACA vents in the bottom and the big snap vents in the
window near the front. The snap vents do a great job of cooling the upper
body and head during hot weather, couldn't do without them, actually.

The bottom ones are nice too, to have some air flowing down there as well.
Plus the right one is critical to confirm my amphib front wheel position on
that side when I am solo.

Hello all,
A couple quick questions hoping to get some insight on.Do others find
that the snap vents in the windows give more than enough air in the
cabin or are other vents required.ie NACA vents?Secondly,I'm trying to
source some of the Parkerflex tubing that was supplied in the float
kit.Anyone know of a source in Ontario or a comparable product.I need
1/4"O.D x .048 wall and 3/8" O.D. x .048 wall.Brake line and hydraulic
line.
Thanks for any input
Jason

I suspect it depends on where you fly most. In Alberta at 5000' and up the
window vents are quite sufficient. I've not spent enough time elsewhere to
really know how bad it can get without the lower ones Walter has.

I used DOT approved nylon air brake hose on my floats. Both for 1/4 and
3/8". Got it from Cisco Industrial on Dixie Rd. just N. of the 401. They
are owned by Grainger so any Grainger store or online should be able to
supply it. About 40 cents per foot for the 1/4" as I recall and it works
with the same fittings as Parkerflex or with DOT approved fittings. It
is black so sunlight doesn't rot it. You can't watch for air bubbles in
it when you put fluid in but that was not an issue for me. I did not use
any of the 3/8" nylon fittings that came with the float kit. Brass air
brake fittings are heavier but unlike the plastic ones, the tubing fits
over a center hollow stud to prevent collapsing the tubing. That said my
brake pedal is soft with too much movement on my floats but I don't
think that is because of the DOT tubing.

I seem to have ample air from the large (3"?) snap vents in the forward
bottom corner of the door windows. Drill the hole a bit on the small
side and sand to final size as it is very easy to make the hole too
large and loose.

Anyone ever put the snap vents on the roof? Saw a carbon cub at Arlington
with this setup and the guy said it didn't let rain in

[rebel-builders] air vents and parker flex tubing

My nylon fittings have actually been less trouble than the brass ones (I use
them both). I had a few nylon ones (3/8) loosen up initially (saw some
leaks), and after retightening no problems since (10 years now). Meanwhile,
the brass ones seem very sensitive to the exact tightness, too loose they
leak, and too tight they deform (don't have the inside hollow stud ones) and
leak. Have had to replace a few brass ones (and cut line ends) to stop
leaks.
