The firewall in my kit, r779 is stainless, it is an austenitic grade so it is non magnetic but there are no markings to say what type it is.

Hi All,

All this talk about firewalls has me wondering.....would a 2003-2004 kit
(#786) have been shipped to the US with a stainless or aluminum firewall? I
bought the kit from another builder so the firewall is already riveted on and I
don't have an official parts list. Is it stated in the manual, by chance? Easy
way to check?

Thanks,
Rob

-> Thanks Dick, excellent point. I have a full bag of ss rivets from MAM and
the moose instructions have no reference to the firewall at all. So I will use
these and look over the regs.

-> I'd vote for stainless. A fire barrier is only as strong as the weakest link
-> and aluminum will melt in seconds in a fuel fed fire. Some guys have said
-> the stainless pop rivets don't always retain the mandrel which could leave
-> them hollow but mine were OK. That said I did use some avex in non critical
-> places although perhaps should not have. But the entire firewall is fastened
-> to aluminum so there are limits to the advantages of a stainless rivet. BE61
-> stainless structural rivets could be used if someone is really picky. Ken
