Roland,
Be careful of the 0-320-B1A dynafocal case engines as they have a different
mounting angle than the MAM mounts.

Not knowing much about engine mounts I thought I would post this for some
responses. Some Lycoming engines such as 0-320B1A use a conical and others
use a dynafocal ? mount. When building our Rebels is one preferred over
the
other or does it not make a difference. The mounting attach points on the
firewall would be in the same place regardless.

That being said, does anyone have experience with the B1A version... good
bad other.

[rebel-builders] Conical vs. Dynafocal

The O-540 series engine has a removable (4 stud) mount casting that bolts to
the 4 corners of the rear case halves. Two come to mind, one is at an 18*
angle and the lugs merge at about the crank shaft flange. The others are
30* and merge at about the center of the crankshaft. The Dynafocal rubber
mounts are not interchangeable. The SR- series welded mount comes with
only the 30* dynafocal type mount. It uses Four Rubber Units Lord P/N
J3804-20, used on Piper PA-23,-24,-25 series aircraft and other makes.

The castings are referred to as type A, or type B, I do not recall which is
which.

The engine I am using from a R-182 (RG) O-540-J3C5D used an 18* mount as
most all Cessna six cyl's do. I went to a 30* mount castings from a Piper.

I may be wrong in saying that almost all of the bigger 4 cylinder Lyc.
engines use conical mounts. The "lugs" are cast into the 4 rear corners of
the case halves and are not removable. I do not know what the O-235 uses.

About 5 years ago Nancy sent me information on the only two mounts that
Murphy sells...one conical for the 4 cyl, & one dynafocal 30* for the 6 cyl.

I hope this helps...

[rebel-builders] Conical vs. Dynafocal

Thanks all for the quick responses. I had the opportunity to buy a low time
B1A at a reasonable price. Turns out he is selling as the engine
dimensions... setup, will cause problems with his nose gear and cowl on an
RV. After all of the comments, decided to pass on this one. I will continue
on looking and waiting for the 'right' engine option ( as if there really is
just one !).
