[rebel-builders] Electrical quick connects ?

The Big C airplane company uses AMP brand connectors, same thing from some
of the Accessory makers such as strobe lights, wing tip lights, usually
.093" dia pins.

Other brands are Molex, & Philmore--& others I am sure. These are the white
nylon housings available with 3 pin diameters, .093", .062", and about
.031".
The pins use a special crimp tool available for $10.00 to $20.00. Also the
pins can be extracted with a "pin extractor" for under $5.00. This makes it
possible to run a wire bundle through a small hole, then push the pins into
the housing and you are in business. They can be removed to reverse the
process. Available from many electronic, boat, Ham radio sources. AMP
& Molex housings are not interchangeable, but I think the pins are.

Another option is to use "Sub D connectors" metal housings, My local
avionics shop recommends them. This is rapidly becoming my favorite. About
the same connector as you will find on computer components. Two types,
Solder type pins permanent in the housings, or removable pins that can be
soldered or crimped then inserted. Available in 9, 15, 25, 50 pin sizes.
Mostly the ones I have seen are for # 20, or 22 wires. You can also buy the
clamp on housings to make them up to act as a flat cannon plug with wire
strain relief so as to protect the wires from being broken one at a time, as
I have had happen with the nylon type.
Some guys have ground away the flanges. Then sealed the assy with tape or
RTV, PRC or Shoe Goo to make the assy contamination free, but with just a
little work can be cut apart to separate them and re-use. I picked up a
small hand full of the various sizes at our local Fry's store last week. As
I recall about $5 or $6 to set up one complete 15 pin connector with the
strain relief clamps.

Another thought the Sub-D round pins are the same as those used in some of
the Avionics of the 70's, 80's If you have been looking for a source of
pins.

I want the ability to disconnect the trim wire at the stab, simply plug and
unplug. So I can take the stab off when transporting.

Thanks
