254R - first engine start

Friday marked the first engine start for 254R. After cranking with mags off
to produce positive oil pressure, the initial start went smoothly. Initial
mixture setting on the AeroCarb was a little rich, but manageable. Between
the two runs, mixture needle was leaned just a quarter turn and seems to be
fine now, at least at low RPM's. All sensors and accessories appear to be
working well, except the dual alternators and tach. The tach reads pulses
from the primary alternator so those issues may well be related. A handheld
optical tach was very useful. With suboptimal cooling because the cowl was
off -- fire extinguishers at the ready -- I didn't run it too long, but wow,
what a thrill.

The Jabiru 3300 6-cyl. is a very smooth and (everyone agreed) very quiet
engine. The airplane is alive, and so is the builder.
