[rebel-builders] Sun and Fun

Post by Angus McKenzie » Sun Feb 19, 2012 6:19 pm

Hi Ken,
Glad to hear you all had such fun at SnF!!
Sorry to have missed. I still want to join you all for the trip, and I'm sure Chris does too. Maybe next year?
I guess I'll have to make it out for a couple of flying ocassions with you guys this year to show good intent for next year.
I'm still in sunny Africa enjoying being stranded with the ash cloud.
Work in Sudan went well even with the accompanying election there. Not sure what 50C is in F. but it's really hot when you are working.
Since Nairobi, Amsterdam,Detroit was cancelled we were able to get routed via Emirates to Dubai UAE then Houston TX, Detroit MI and home the end of the week.
Hope to make it to bobp's next Murphy soiree'......Angus

First thank you to Bob and Anna and also Ron,Genie,Jim for the
hospitality at Sun'n Fun. Peter and I had a great time as did Jim and
Gloria in their Rebel. We enjoyed meeting everyone.

Once again there was more stuff in the Rebel than we could fit in the
car after getting home. 28.1 flight hours with excellent hospitality at
every stop.

The subaru has just over 350 flight hours now exclusively on unleaded
fuel. On cross countries I run gas station ethanol mogas before I'll put
lead in it. Between the higher fuel flow when alcohol is in the tanks
and a little higher rpm to keep up with Jim now that he has cleaned up
his lower cowl exit, the burn averaged almost 5 gph this trip which is a
bit higher than normal. (We were also quite heavy). Fuel costs averaged
just over $3. per gallon for premium.

EAPIS for border crossing in and out of the USA worked well but you do
need to find computer access and about 15 min. or so to enter the info.
The interface could be cleaned up a bit to avoid multiple entries of the
same data.

In addition to airnav.com for finding airport mogas there is the list of
gas stations that pump pure gasolene at pure-gas.org

And keep an eye on the new American Air Campers website for anyone
interested in aircraft camping.
