[rebel-builders] Rebel wing weight.

I never weighed mine, but it sounds a little heavier than I remember it
seeming to be -- not that it matters -- my so-called memory being a totally
unreliable, non-data point. :-/

For the record though, what is in the wing at this point? Inspection ports
at strut attach? Wiring conduits? Pitot? Fuel gauge senders? Paint? FLIR
scope? Armaments? :)

One down, one to go.

I hung the right wing from the ceiling today. I have pressure checked the
tank at 1 psi, and it held pressure overnight, so I call that good.

Before I hung it I took some time to do the best I could and weigh the
wing.
I weighed it at 70.5 pounds, with no wing tip in place, no flaperons
hanging, and ....(I was going to put it on but I forgot) no gas cap.

I hope someone might find that useful.

The wing is:
Complete with inspection covers attached:
Four wires run through the nose ribs with small grommets: (Strobe power
supply, navigation light, one ground wire (seemed like a good idea at the
time), and one spare. No conduit.
No pitot. It will be in the left wing.
No paint.
No fuel gauge senders
Ribs and spars were "dusted" with zinc chromate:
Wing skin was coated on the inside with Cortec material.
Three lighting holes were cut into the outer bays near the tip. I think that
the diameter was.....had to go look it up, 3.75 inches.
I tapered the spar caps as per the manual to save weight:
I used close to 300 grams of proseal to seal the top of the tank. Don't know
how much I used on the other joints, but I got curious when I got to the
lid:
My tanks are only two bays, so the tank skin is cut down for what ever
weight savings that might add.
The only way to make this wing lighter, as I see it, is to eliminate the
corrosion protection, and to use less proseal.
I did add some small strips to the top and bottom of the front spar because
I did not like the way the skin was laying across the flat of the spar and
the front of the nose rib. I suppose that the strips were maybe 5/8" wide by
0.032 tk.

I left out the hard point for ordinance attachment.

I think my scales are mostly accurate. Check with me in X number of months,
and I will weigh the other one.

Whew! Not THAT's what I call data points! Now people will be able to tell if
they're comparing Macintosh's to Granny Smith's or Fuji's. Good show.
